The Most Common Questions About Humira

How does Humira affect weight gain and weight loss?

The use of Humira may result in weight changes for a few different reasons. According to the labeling of Humira (adalimumab), neither weight gain nor weight loss is listed as a potential direct side effect. While taking this medication, other conditions, symptoms, or medications may affect your weight. Humira has also been linked to weight gain in clinical trials.

When your Humira dosage is stopped, what happens?

Adalimumab (Humira) is classified as a biologic maintenance agent (long-term). Your condition can worsen if you stop taking your Humira. You may experience pain and inflammation again.

When does Humira begin to work?

Within 2 to 12 weeks, most patients taking Humira (adalimumab) will feel relief from their symptoms. Results may differ amongst individuals who can depend on your condition and other factors, such as how well you tolerate treatment and what medications you take.

Without Insurance, how much does Humira cost?

Based on an online coupon, Humira (generic name: adalimumab) has an average cash price of $6,240 for one carton (2 pens) of 40 mg/0.4 mL. This is not the typical cost for most patients. The cost of Humira depends on which product you need, the strength of your insurance, and the type of insurance you have. Can Humira be taken for an indefinite period?

As a maintenance (long-term) drug, Humira (adalimumab) is prescribed to patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. Your doctor will assess you regularly to determine whether you should continue taking Humira. Depending on the severity of your anti-inflammatory response, the duration of your treatment may differ from others.

How long can Humira be kept if it is taken out of the refrigerator?

Take into account the possibility of traveling or being unable to keep Humira (adalimumab) in the refrigerator. In that case, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days if the temperature does not exceed 77 degrees F (25 degrees C).

If you haven’t used your Humira within 14 days and it’s been kept at room temperature, throw it away. Contact your pharmacist for more information.

You must use your Humira Pen or prefilled syringe within 14 days after it has reached room temperature, even if you put it back in the refrigerator.

Protect Humira from light at all times and store it in its original carton until you are ready to take it.

I missed my injection of Humira; what should I do?

When using Humira, what should I avoid?

If you are using adalimumab, avoid “live” vaccines. You may not be fully protected from disease during this time if the vaccine does not work well. A live vaccine includes the MMR vaccine, polio vaccine, rotavirus vaccine, yellow fever vaccine, varicella vaccine (chickenpox), and shingles vaccine.
