Description

Adults usually use Hyrimoz when their conditions are severe, moderately severe, or getting worse or when they are unable to use other treatments.

Adalimumab-adaz, the active ingredient in Hyrimoz, is a monoclonal antibody (a type of protein) that recognizes and binds to tumor necrosis factor (TNF)—patients with diseases that Hyrimoz is used to treat exhibit high levels of TNF, which causes inflammation. Adalimumab blocks TNF’s activity by attaching to it, thereby reducing inflammation and other symptoms.

A biosimilar medicine, Hyrimoz contains adalimumab as its active ingredient. In other words, Hyrimoz shares many similarities with another biological medicine, Humira. Other biosimilar medications of Humira include Amgevita, Yuflyma, Hadlima, and Hulio.

In addition to treating the following conditions, Hyrimoz functions as an immune system booster:

  • Plaque psoriasis (a skin disease characterized by red, scaly patches);
  • Arthritis of the joints caused by psoriatic disease (red, scaly patches of skin with inflammation);
  • The inflammatory disease rheumatoid arthritis (a disease that causes swelling in the joints);
  • Inflammation of the spine causing back pain, including ankylosing spondylitis, when X-rays don’t show disease, but there are clear signs of inflammation;
  • Enthesitis-related arthritis and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (both rare diseases causing inflammation in joints);
  • The disease Crohn’s disease (which causes inflammation in the gut);
  • Colitis ulcerative (a disease characterized by inflammation and ulceration of the gut);
  • The long-term skin disease hidradenitis suppurativa (acneversa) causes lumps, abscesses, and scarring;
  • Non-infectious uveitis (inflammation beneath the white of the eyeball).

Prior To Using Hyrimoz

It is essential to weigh the risks of taking a medicine against its benefits before using it. Your doctor and you will make this decision together. The following considerations should be taken into account when using this medicine:

Allergies

Any unusual or allergic reaction to this or any other medicine should be reported to your doctor. You should also tell your health care professional if you have any other allergies, such as food allergies, dye allergies, preservative allergies, or animal allergies. Read the ingredients on non-prescription products carefully.

Pediatric

Adalimumab-adaz injection has not been shown to pose pediatric-specific problems that would limit its effectiveness in treating juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children two years and older or Crohn’s disease in children six years and older, according to appropriate studies conducted to date. Children younger than two years of age or weighing less than 10 kilograms (kg) have not been evaluated for safety or efficacy in juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, or other conditions.

Geriatric

Adalimumab-adaz injection has not been shown to cause geriatric-specific problems in adalimumab-adaz studies performed to date. Patients receiving this medicine should be cautious since this medicine may cause severe infections and cancer more often in the elderly.

Breast Feeding

Using this medication during breastfeeding has not been adequately studied in women, before taking this medication while breastfeeding, weigh its potential benefits and risks.

Hyrimoz Usage

Usually given every two weeks, Hyrimoz is injected under the skin as a solution. Depending on the condition to be treated, the dose and frequency of injections will vary, and the dose for a child will be based on their weight. If their doctor deems it appropriate, patients or their caregivers may inject Hyrimoz after receiving training.

Treatment with Hyrimoz must be started and supervised by a doctor experienced in treating the diseases for which Hyrimoz is prescribed. Doctors who have experience using Hyrimoz should also provide advice to eye specialists treating uveitis.

Side Effects Of Hyrimoz

Infection (including nose, throat, and sinus infections), injection-site reactions (redness, itching, bleeding, pain or swelling), headache, and muscle and bone pain are the most common side effects with adalimumab (more than 1 patient in 10).

Several cases of serious infections and blood cancers have been reported in patients using adalimumab, along with other medicines of its class.

It is also possible for the bone marrow to fail to produce blood cells, nerves to malfunction, lupus (a condition in which the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues, causing inflammation and organ damage) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a life-threatening reaction characterized by flu-like symptoms and a painful rash on the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals).

Hyrimoz is not recommended for patients with active tuberculosis or other severe infections, or in patients with moderate to severe heart failure.

Drug Interactions With Hyrimoz

Even if an interaction might occur between two different medicines, there are some cases in which they may be used together, even if they cannot be combined. Depending on the situation, your doctor may need to change the dose or take other precautions. The following medicines should be discussed with your healthcare professional before you begin taking this medicine. It is not necessarily an all-inclusive list but has been compiled based on potential significance.

Hyrimoz Clinical Studies

According to studies, giving Hyrimoz produces similar levels of the active substance in the body as giving Humira.

Hyrimoz was also found to be as effective as Humira in a study involving 465 patients with moderate or severe plaque psoriasis. Following 16 weeks of treatment, 68% of Hyrimoz patients had at least a 75% reduction in symptoms and 63% of Humira patients had at least a 75% reduction.

It is not necessary to repeat all the studies on adalimumab performed on Humira for Hyrimoz since it is a biosimilar medicine.
