Ozempic is a popular GLP-1 medication that is prescribed to patients struggling with type 2 diabetes management. The pens of this prescription medication have shown to help patients lower both their blood sugar levels and their A1C levels. This medication is also helpful for minimizing patients’ risk of cardiovascular issues and worsening kidney problems.
Ozempic is only available in the form of prefilled injection pens. These pens include 2 mg/3 mL pens that can be used for giving patients 0.25 mg (the non-therapeutic starting dose intended to improve tolerability) or 0.5 mg doses. Formulations also include 4 mg/3 mL pens used to deliver 1 mg doses and 8 mg/3 mL strengths used to give patients 2 mg doses. Patients usually start with the 0.25 mg dose for the first four weeks of taking the medication and have this dose raised to 0.5 mg per week after that time. Patients may gradually have their doses raised to the higher doses after this time if additional control is needed. Each dose of the medication must be used for at least four weeks to give the body time to get used to the dose before increasing it.
Patients using Ozempic pens can give themselves their doses by:
Patients should make sure to take their doses on the same day each week that it is taken. It is also important that injections are made into sites that are rotated for each use to reduce the occurrence of local skin reactions.
Animal studies have indicated that there is a possible risk for patients to develop C-cell tumors while taking this medication. These findings were only observed in rodent studies – with no confirmed causal evidence in humans. However, this is why patients with histories of issues like medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 are advised not to take this medication. Patients taking this medication should let their doctors know immediately if they develop symptoms such as frequent hoarseness of the voice or a mass on their neck.
Missed doses of this medication should be taken as soon as the patient remembers as long as it is still within five days from the scheduled time of the dose they have missed. Patients who have missed their dose for longer than that period of time should skip the missed dose and continue their next dose at its regular scheduled time.
Patients who accidentally take too much of this medication should contact Poison Control or a medical toxicologist to find out the up-to-date next steps that should be taken. Extended monitoring will also likely be needed due to the medication’s week-long half-life. Patients who are having any emergency complications should call for immediate medical attention.
Patients need to keep their new pens stored inside a refrigerated environment that contains stable temperatures between 36 °F and 46 °F (or between 2 °C and 8 °C) before they use the pen for the first time. It may be kept this way until the expiration date listed on the medication packaging. Used pens may continue to be stored at this temperature or they may be stored in a room temperature environment that is between 59 ºF and 86 ºF (15 ºC and 30 ºC) for up to 56 days. This medication should never be put in an environment where it could become frozen or in direct light.

While Ozempic has shown some promise as a weight management medication, this is not an accredited use. Ozempic does not have FDA approval for the treatment of obesity or weight management. It is better to use a product like Zepbound – which is intended for this purpose.
Ozempic should be administered once weekly, on the same day each week.
Yes. Ozempic orders placed through Insulin Outlet can be shipped directly to addresses in the U.S. All shipments are handled using temperature-controlled/cold-chain packaging to make sure the medication remains safe and effective after transit.
Ozempic does not have FDA approval for the treatment of obesity or weight management. Using this medication for weight loss is only done off-label when prescribed by some healthcare providers. Patients taking this medication and other similar GLP-1 medications often lose about 15% to 20% of their body weight. However, the exact amount may vary between patients. It may also be affected by the dose the patient is taking and their lifestyle changes surrounding their taking of this medication (like dietary and exercise changes). Ozempic does not have FDA approval for the treatment of obesity or weight management.
Both medications are the same as long as they come from the same manufacturer (Novo Nordisk). The only differences should be pricing and packaging.
